Direct Line: (604) 757-6389

Michael’s cross disciplinary law practice is designed to provide an integrated approach to the broad needs of his real estate clients.  As transaction counsel, Michael maintains a substantial commercial leasing and transaction practice.  As litigation counsel, Michael's practice includes disputes involving real estate, or the judicial review of government administrative and tribunal decision making. He also frequently appears before administrative tribunals having regulatory jurisdiction over his real estate clients.

Michael’s significant and diverse connection to the real estate industry includes university level education in commercial real estate appraisal and commercial property management through the UBC Sauder School of Business, and a previous career as a real estate salesperson and property manager. Before founding Drouillard Lawyers with Brett Love, Michael was the co-chair of the real estate practice group of one of the largest law firms in Vancouver.

Michael has written extensively on the subject of real estate. His publications include a Canadian best-selling book, “Landlording in Canada”, a peer reviewed law journal article criticizing the practice of dual agency once used by real estate brokerages in British Columbia, co-authoring a treatise on the subject of manufactured housing law in British Columbia with Brett Love, and numerous other industry articles, some of which are found at our Publications page.

Michael teaches professional development courses for commercial and residential real estate licensees, and is a real estate law instructor with the UBC Sauder School of Business. He has also presented to lawyers on topics that include collapsing real estate transaction litigation, residential tenancy law, and manufactured housing law.
